40 breeds Checked 28 Oct 2026 Source: American Kennel Club
Spin the wheel to pick one of 40 dog breeds at random. Every breed is recognized by the American Kennel Club and is written as the AKC writes it, such as German Shepherd Dog and St. Bernard. The list was last checked against akc.org on 28 October 2026, and each breed has one equal slice.
Use it as a random dog breed generator for a class report on one breed, a drawing game, a quiz about dog groups, or a family chat about which dog you would like to meet at the park. Teachers can give each student a different breed to research.
The breeds are grouped on this page the way the AKC groups them: Sporting, Hound, Working, Terrier, Toy, Non-Sporting and Herding. To spin one group only, delete the other lines in the list box. Choose Remove winner so every breed comes up once.
Yes. All 40 breeds are recognized by the American Kennel Club, and the names match the AKC list checked on 28 October 2026 at akc.org. The date at the top of the page changes each time the list is checked.
Yes. The list on this page is split into the seven AKC groups. Delete the lines from the groups you do not want, for example the 5 Toy breeds, and the wheel redraws.
Choose Remove winner under the list. Each breed leaves the wheel after it comes up, so 25 spins give a class of 25 students 25 different breeds.
Yes. Type more breeds into the list box, one per line. Save to My Wheels keeps your edited copy in this browser, while the page itself always opens the checked list.
