Online alarm clock

Set a time, add a label, pick a sound and snooze 5 or 10 minutes. It rings only while this tab stays open.

How it works

  1. Type the alarm time and pick a sound
  2. Press Set alarm and keep this tab open
  3. Snooze 5 or 10 minutes, or press Stop

Setting the alarm

To set an online alarm, type a time such as 07:30, 7:30 pm or 19:30 in Alarm time and press Set alarm. The alarm rings at the next moment your device clock shows that time: later today if it is still ahead, otherwise tomorrow. At 10:00 pm, an alarm for 7:30 am is 9 hours 30 minutes away and due tomorrow. An alarm for 10:00 pm pressed at exactly 10:00 pm is 24 hours away, because that moment is no longer ahead. Without am or pm the hour is 0 to 23 and the minutes are required. With am or pm the hour is 1 to 12, where 12 am is just after midnight and 12 pm is noon. Seconds are not accepted: the alarm rings when the clock reaches the start of that minute. Time Display switches the clock and the due time between 12-hour and 24-hour, or follows your device. The page uses your device's time zone.

What it does when the alarm is due

When the time arrives the page shows Alarm, plays your chosen sound and repeats it every 3 seconds until you act. Rising beeps, Long tone and Short beep are the three sounds, and Test sound plays the one chosen so you can check your volume before you rely on it. Snooze 5 min or Snooze 10 min silences it and rings again after that long. You can snooze as many times as you like, and the page counts them. Stop ends the alarm. While the alarm is waiting, the big display counts down the time left in hours, minutes and seconds, and Cancel alarm removes it. There is one alarm at a time and it does not repeat on other days. The label is shown on screen when the alarm rings and is not saved.

When it will not ring

This is a web page, not an app. The alarm rings only while this tab is open, the device is awake and the sound is not muted or turned down. Closing the tab, reloading the page or shutting the laptop lid ends it, and a phone that locks its screen may stop the page. Sound needs a first click on the page, so the sound is prepared when you press Set alarm. If the tab is in the background, the time is still worked out from the device clock rather than counted in steps, the same way the Countdown timer works. If the alarm time passed while the page could not run, you see the alarm as ringing the moment the page runs again, and a note says how long after its time the page noticed. Browsers can also delay or block sound in a background tab. For anything you must not miss, such as a flight or a medicine, also set a phone alarm.

Screen on, and what is saved

Where your browser supports it, the page asks to keep the screen on while an alarm is waiting, so the device stays awake. That uses more battery, and the browser can refuse or release the request. The alarm time, the 12-hour or 24-hour choice and the sound are remembered in this browser, so the page opens with your last choices. The alarm itself and the label are not saved: after a reload there is no alarm until you set one again. The page does not change its title as the alarm counts down. Visits are counted with Google Analytics, never the times you set.

Frequently asked questions

Will the alarm ring if I close the tab or lock my phone?

No for a closed tab: the alarm only exists while this page is open. A phone that locks its screen may stop the page, so the alarm can be late or silent. Keep the tab open on a device that stays awake, plugged in if you can, or use your phone's own alarm for early mornings.

What happens if the tab is in the background at alarm time?

The time left is worked out from the device clock, so it stays right. If the browser slowed the page, the alarm shows as ringing as soon as the page next runs, with a note such as 2 minutes after its time. Sound can be delayed or blocked in a background tab, so keep the tab visible for a time that matters.

How do I set an alarm for 6:45 am tomorrow?

Type 6:45 am or 06:45 in Alarm time and press Set alarm. If it is already past 6:45 am the alarm is due tomorrow, and the status line says Set for 6:45 AM tomorrow. The display counts the hours, minutes and seconds left until then.

How does snooze work?

When the alarm rings, Snooze 5 min or Snooze 10 min stops the sound and starts a new countdown of that length, then it rings again. The countdown starts when you press the button: snoozing at 7:30 for 10 minutes rings again at 7:40, and the page shows Snoozed until 7:40 AM. There is no limit on snoozes.

Can I set more than one alarm or repeat every day?

No. This page keeps one alarm at a time and it rings once. It does not repeat on weekdays or other days. After it rings and you press Stop, set the next one. For a series of alarms, use your phone's alarm app.

Is the alarm time sent anywhere?

No. The alarm runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded. The alarm time, the 12-hour or 24-hour choice and the sound are saved in this browser so the page opens with them. The label and the running alarm are not saved. Page visits are counted with Google Analytics, never your times.
