Timers and routines

  • Countdown Timer: Set hours, minutes and seconds, press Start. It rings at zero and stays right in a background tab.
  • Interval Timer: Work and rest rounds with beeps, round counts and total time left. It stays right in a background tab.
  • Stopwatch: Start, pause and record laps. It follows the clock, so a background tab stays right.

  • Alarm Clock: Set a time, add a label, pick a sound and snooze 5 or 10 minutes. It rings only while this tab stays open.

About these tools

This page is for teachers, tutors and anyone who runs a room of learners. It does not list every tool on the site. It lists the ones that fit a lesson: a way to call on students fairly, to split a class into groups, to run a timer on the board, to hand out practice, and to mark a test.

The main tool is the Wheel of Names: press its Classroom mode button for the version made for lessons. You save a class list once and it stays in your browser on that device. You can mark a student absent today and the wheel skips them. Everyone once gives each student one turn per round before it starts a new round. A private tally counts picks and exports as a CSV file, Groups split the class into teams, and the projector view fills the screen so the back row can read it. The classroom page has no ads, no analytics and no cookie banner.

The other tools work the same way on any page of this site: no account, and the lists you type are handled in your browser tab. Random Name Picker draws several students at once, Team Maker and Random Pairs build groups, Seating Chart sets rows, and the countdown, interval timer and stopwatch keep the right time in a background tab. Quizzes and practice pages need no sign-up. Printables such as worksheets, graph paper, bingo cards and certificates are made on your device as a PDF or PNG.

School IT and privacy teams can read exactly what each page loads, and the hosts to allow, on the Schools page, linked at the foot of every page. Pages outside the classroom wheel can carry ads or analytics, so check that page before you put it on a school network.

Frequently asked questions

Do students need an account or a sign-in?

No. None of these tools has accounts, so students never log in and nobody gives an email address. Open the page and use it. In the classroom wheel you can save up to 50 class lists of up to 500 names each, and they stay in the browser on that device.

Are my students' names uploaded or stored anywhere?

Names you type or paste stay in your browser. Saved class lists are kept in local storage on that device and are not sent to a Yolo Picker server, and the classroom page contacts 1 host, yolopicker.com. A share link keeps the names after the # in the address, which a browser does not send to any server. Forget all in the wheel deletes every saved list and tally from that device.

Can I show it on a projector or smart board?

Yes. The Wheel of Names has a projector view that fills the screen, and a clicker can spin it with the presenter keys. The bingo caller shows a large current call and the last 5 calls, which read from the back of a room.

Does it work on school Chromebooks and tablets?

These are ordinary web pages with nothing to install, so a current Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox opens them. We have not tested every Chromebook or tablet model, and a school filter can block a site. The classroom wheel needs only 1 host, yolopicker.com, and the Schools page lists the hosts for every page.

Are there ads on these pages?

Not on the classroom Wheel of Names page, which also has no analytics and no cookie banner. Other pages on the site may show ads or use analytics, and the Schools page says which hosts each page contacts. If you need a page with no third-party scripts, use the classroom page, which loads from 1 host.

Is the random pick fair?

Yes. The winner is chosen by your browser's crypto random generator before the wheel starts to move, so the animation changes nothing. Everyone once mode gives every student 1 turn per round before anyone gets a second.
