Pick a size and two colours, get a PNG, JPEG, WebP or SVG with the size written on it. Made in your browser.
Width and height each take a whole number from 1 to 8000 pixels. The six chips fill both boxes with common sizes: 1200 by 630 for a social preview, 1920 by 1080, 1080 by 1080, 800 by 600, 300 by 250 for an ad slot and 150 by 150 for an avatar. PNG, JPEG and WebP are drawn on a canvas in your browser, so the device sets one more limit: about 64 million pixels on a computer and about 16.7 million on an iPhone or iPad. A size above that is refused with a message, and the SVG format, which has no pixels to draw, is not affected. Decimals, negative numbers, exponents such as 1e3 and empty boxes are rejected with a message under the box.
The text on the image is the size, written as 800 × 600, until you type your own. Your text is cut to 100 characters and line breaks become spaces; it is a single centred line. With the font size on Auto, the page picks a size that keeps the line inside the image: it uses about 85% of the width and 35% of the height, adding up a width for each character from a table of Arial letter widths, so a line of capital W gets a smaller size than a line of i. The sum is an estimate for Arial; a device that falls back to another sans-serif can draw the line a little wider or narrower. Very long text on a small image shrinks to a minimum of 4 pixels, and a line may still be wider than the image at that size. Choose Manual to set a size from 4 to 2000 pixels yourself, and a long line can then run past the edges. The font is Arial or a similar sans-serif, depending on the device, so the letters can differ a little between PNG and SVG.
PNG keeps the colours exactly. JPEG and WebP are saved at a quality of 92 and can show faint halos around the letters. WebP is not available in some browsers, and the page says so instead of saving a different type. SVG is a few hundred bytes of text, and the text in it is escaped so that angle brackets and quotes in your label stay plain text. The file is named placeholder-800x600.png, with the size and the extension. Under the preview you get the inline SVG to paste into a page, and a data address that puts the image inside an img tag. For PNG, JPEG and WebP the data address is made only up to 1,000,000 pixels and only offered if it is 50 kB or less. The SVG data address has the same 50 kB cap.
A placeholder holds a spot in a layout, a slide or a test page until the real picture exists. It is a flat colour with a label, not a photo, a gradient or a pattern, and it has no transparency: the background colour fills the whole image. Nothing is uploaded; the picture is drawn in this tab, and your text and size are not saved. Only the format, the colours and the font choice are remembered in this browser. Check contrast between the two colours yourself if the label has to be read from far away.
8000 by 8000 pixels as an SVG on any device. As a PNG, JPEG or WebP the limit is the device's canvas: about 64 million pixels on a computer, so 8000 by 8000 fits, and about 16.7 million on an iPhone, so there 4096 by 4096 fits.
Yes. Type it in the Text box, up to 100 characters. Leave the box empty to get the size, such as 1200 × 630. The text is one centred line, and Auto font size shrinks it to fit.
A data address is only made for images up to 1,000,000 pixels, and only shown if it is 50 kB or less. A large image would make a huge text. Download the file instead, or choose SVG, whose data address is short at any size.
No. The background colour fills the whole image. JPEG cannot hold transparency at all, and this page does not offer a transparent PNG.
Some browsers cannot save WebP from a canvas. The page then shows a message and does not save a different type. Choose PNG or JPEG, or use a current Chrome, Edge or Firefox.
