Shoe size converter (US, UK, EU, Japan, cm)

Convert shoe sizes between US men's, women's and children's, UK, EU, Japan and Mondopoint, from a size or a foot length.

How it works

  1. Choose the size system you know, or foot length in mm, cm or inches
  2. Type the size, such as 9 for US men's or 42 for EU
  3. Read the other systems and the chart of nearby sizes, then check the brand's own chart

How the shoe size conversion works

To convert a shoe size, this tool turns it into a foot length and then into every other system, so a US men's 9 is about a UK 8, an EU 41.5, a US women's 10 and a Japanese 26 cm. The foot length for that shoe is 262.5 mm, or 10.33 inches. The relations are the adult ones from ISO 19407:2023, with L as foot length in millimetres. EU size = L ÷ 6.67 + 2. UK size = L ÷ 8.47 − 23. US men's is one step above UK, and US women's is one step above US men's. Japan uses the foot length in centimetres, and Mondopoint is the foot length in millimetres. Results are rounded to the nearest half size.

Children's sizes and other systems

Children's sizes use their own scale, and this table covers sizes 0 to 13.5. In this table the UK children's size is 3 × foot length in inches − 10. The US children's size is half a size above the UK one, which is what ISO 19407:2023 gives as the usual offset for children's footwear. A foot of 169 mm is a UK children's 10 and a US children's 10.5. Children's sizes are shown up to size 13.5, about 199 mm, and adult sizes start at UK 1, about 203 mm, so a foot between the two shows the nearest children's size or the nearest adult size. Asian and brand-specific systems, youth sizes and wide or narrow widths are not covered. The page also takes a foot length, so you can measure the foot, type the millimetres and read every system without knowing any size.

Check against the ISO table

ISO 19407:2023 Table 2 lists a Mondopoint of 250 as EU 39.5, UK 6.5, US men's 7.5 and US women's 8.5, and a Mondopoint of 265 as EU 41.5, UK 8.5, US men's 9.5 and US women's 10.5. Type 250 or 265 with Foot length (mm) selected and this page returns the same four numbers. The UK figure for 250 is 250 ÷ 8.47 − 23 = 6.52, which rounds to 6.5. The standard calls these conversions a guideline, and a conversion starting from a UK or EU size can land one Mondopoint step away from the standard's separate UK and EU tables, because those tables are rounded by hand. Treat the answer as the size to try first. If the brand has a chart in centimetres, use it and compare with the Japan or Foot length (mm) row.

How to use the result

Measure the longer foot, standing, from the heel to the longest toe, and type that length as Foot length (mm). Do not add room for the toes: the standard's relations already include the allowance between foot and shoe. A foot is rarely exactly one size, so look at the nearby sizes in the chart and let comfort decide. This page does not know the brand, the last, the width or the material, so check the maker's chart when it has one. The numbers are an estimate, not a fitting.

Frequently asked questions

What is a US men's 9 in UK and EU sizes?

About UK 8 and EU 41.5, with a foot length near 262.5 mm. A US women's 10 is the same foot, and Japan is 26 cm.

How do I convert men's to women's shoe sizes?

Add 1 to the US men's size to get the US women's size, so men's 8 is women's 9. This tool uses that one-step rule, which the source gives for the same shoe. Some brands use 1.5, so check their chart.

What is Mondopoint and how do I use it?

Mondopoint is the foot length in millimetres, for example 265 for a 26.5 cm foot. Choose Foot length (mm), type 265 and read EU 41.5, UK 8.5 and US men's 9.5, as in ISO 19407:2023 Table 2. The unrounded values are 41.73, 8.29 and 9.29, rounded to the nearest half size.

How do I convert a Japanese shoe size?

Japanese sizes are the foot length in centimetres in half-centimetre steps. A 26.5 shoe fits a foot of about 265 mm. Choose Japan (cm), type 26.5 and read the other systems.

Why does my brand's chart differ from the result?

Brands cut their lasts differently, so the same number can differ between makers. This page uses the foot-length relations in ISO 19407:2023, which the standard calls a guideline. Use the brand's chart when it has one, and treat this result as a starting size.

Are my sizes stored or sent anywhere?

No. The size is processed in your browser and not uploaded, and nothing is saved on your device. Reloading puts the US men's 9 example back. The page only counts that a result was shown, without your size.
