Get a yes or no answer

Type a question, press the button and get Yes or No. Add Maybe if you want. Runs in your browser.

How it works

  1. Type your question, or leave it blank
  2. Turn Maybe on if you want a third answer
  3. Press the button and read the answer

How the answer is chosen

Each press picks one answer at random. With Maybe off, Yes and No each have a 1 in 2 chance. With Maybe on, Yes, No and Maybe each have a 1 in 3 chance. An answer does not depend on the one before it, so you can get Yes five times in a row, just as a fair die can show the same number twice. The tool does not read your question or try to understand it. It would give the same kind of answer to any text, or to no text at all. The draw uses your browser's secure random source when available, with the browser's ordinary random function as a fallback.

The question box

The question is optional. When you type one, it appears in small text just above the answer, so a screenshot or a shared screen shows what was asked. The box is for you and the people in the room: it does not change the odds. Line breaks and extra spaces are folded into single spaces, and a question longer than 200 characters is cut for display. The question stays in this tab. It is not saved with your settings, not put in the page address and not sent anywhere, and it is gone when you close the page. The Clear button empties it along with the result and the history.

Maybe and the history list

Maybe is off by default, because most small decisions need a clear yes or no. Turn it on when you want a third outcome, such as a way to say ask again later. The last 10 answers of this visit are listed under the result, newest first, so you can see a streak or count how many times you got Yes. Clear history removes the list. The list is not stored: close the tab and it is gone. The button label changes to Ask again after the first answer. Copy puts the answer word, and only the word, on your clipboard.

When not to use it

A yes or no from a random draw is fine for light choices: what to eat, who goes first, whether to start the game. It is not advice and it knows nothing about your situation, so do not use it for health, money, legal or safety decisions. If you keep pressing until you get the answer you hoped for, that tells you what you wanted, and it is a fair way to find out. For choosing between more than two things, a list picker handles any number of options.

Frequently asked questions

Is it really 50/50?

Yes, with Maybe off. Yes and No each have a 1 in 2 chance on every press, and one answer does not affect the next. With Maybe on, each of the three answers has a 1 in 3 chance.

Does the question change the answer?

No. The question is only shown above the answer. The tool does not read it, so the same question can give Yes one time and No the next.

Is my question saved or sent?

No. It stays in this tab, is not stored with your settings and is not part of any analytics event. Close the tab or press Clear and it is gone. Only your Maybe choice is remembered in this browser.

Can I see my earlier answers?

Yes. The last 10 answers of this visit are listed under the result, newest first. Press Clear history to empty the list. Nothing in it is saved after you leave the page.

Why did I get the same answer many times in a row?

Each press is a new draw. With two answers, 5 Yes in a row happens about 1 time in 32 runs of 5. A streak is normal for random picks and does not mean the tool is stuck.
