Get a random charades prompt by category and difficulty, with a kids mode and no repeats. Over 400 ideas, plus drawing words.
A drawing and guessing game needs a word the drawer can turn into a picture in under a minute, and the hard part is thinking of one when it is your turn. This page opens on Drawing mode with 90 words written for it. Easy words are single shapes you can sketch in a few lines: sun, house, fish, key, balloon. Medium words need more lines or a scene, like lighthouse, volcano, castle or sleeping. Hard words are ideas, such as shadow, time or teamwork, where the drawer has to be clever with symbols. The drawer may not write letters or numbers, and the team has a minute to guess. Choose an easy level for young children and a hard level for a group that wants a challenge. With No repeats on, every word is used before any comes back, and the Already shown box lets you see which ones have been played. If you want acting prompts instead, switch Game to Charades.
A charades generator gives the actor a random thing to mime so nobody has to think of one on the spot. This one holds 406 prompts written for it in seven categories: actions, animals, jobs, objects, sports, phrases and stories. Each category has easy, medium and hard prompts, such as dog (easy), kangaroo (medium) and anteater (hard). Pick a category or leave All, choose a difficulty or Any, and press the button. Your browser's secure random source, when available, chooses the prompt, so each one still on the list is equally likely. Stories use only public-domain folk and fairy tales, and no prompt names a brand, a film or a real person, so the page is safe to use in a classroom or at a family party.
Everyone uses all 406 prompts. Kids keeps the easy and medium prompts in actions, animals, jobs, objects and sports, which are things a young child can mime without reading hard words. It leaves out hard prompts, phrases and stories; with Kids picked, Hard shows as Medium and Phrases or Stories show as All. Adults adds 34 party scenes, in all three difficulty levels, such as a very long wedding speech or reversing into a tiny parking space; they are cheeky and everyday, never explicit. The levels are a guide. The people playing know best what suits the group, so skip any prompt that does not. An adult should be nearby when young children play.
With No repeats on, a prompt is not shown twice until all of the prompts that match your choices have been shown. The page remembers by writing each prompt into the Already shown box, which you can read and clear. If you choose Animals and Easy there are 20 prompts, so the 21st press shows a note and the list starts again. Clear empties the box and starts the game fresh, and so does reloading the page: nothing is saved. Turn No repeats off to draw with replacement. The tool does not keep score or run a timer, so use the countdown timer for a 60 second round and keep points on paper.
Switch the game to Drawing to get words made for a sketching game instead. There are 90 of them in three levels: easy words such as sun and house, medium words such as lighthouse and sleeping, and hard ones such as shadow and teamwork that need a clever picture. The drawer may not use letters or numbers. The same no-repeat rule applies, so the 31st easy word starts a new round. Charades prompts for acting and drawing words are separate lists, so a word that is easy to mime can be hard to draw, and the other way round.
Things with a clear shape, like sun, house or rocket, work best for beginners. Actions such as swimming or dancing suit older players. The hard list holds ideas such as time or shadow that need a symbol.
There are 90: 30 easy, 30 medium and 30 hard. With No repeats on, the 31st press on an easy list starts the words again with a short note.
Split into two teams. One player presses Get a prompt, keeps the screen hidden and acts it out without speaking while the team guesses. A common round is 60 seconds. Press Next prompt for the next actor.
Choose Kids. It gives easy and medium prompts such as brushing your teeth, penguin, farmer, kite or swimming. There are 200 of them, none needs reading a long phrase, and none involves a story title or an idiom.
Yes. Adults adds 34 party scenes, split across easy, medium and hard like the rest, such as falling asleep in a meeting, a terrible karaoke performance or pretending to know about wine. They are funny, everyday and clean.
No repeats is on, so every prompt shown is written to the Already shown box and skipped until the whole matching list has been used. With All and Any that is 406 prompts. Clear the box to start over.
Yes. Use the drawing game word generator page, or switch Game to Drawing here. It gives 90 drawing words and ideas in three levels, from sun to teamwork.
Prompts are picked in your browser and no server receives them. Your game, audience and difficulty choices are remembered in this browser; the Already shown list is not. Google Analytics counts visits and copy presses, never prompts.
