Stamp text across your PDF pages. Runs on your device.
The tool opens with the text DRAFT in grey at 20% opacity, one stamp in the middle of every page. Opacity runs from 5% to 100%. A low value lets the page show through, which suits a long document that people still need to read; 100% is a solid stamp. Size is Auto-fit by default: the text is made about 60% as wide as the page diagonal when it runs diagonally, or about 60% as wide as the page when it is horizontal. On an A4 page that gives DRAFT roughly 183 points of type. You can switch to Manual and type any size from 12 to 400 points. If the text is wider than the page at the size you choose, the preview shows it running off the edge and the tool warns you, but it still lets you continue. The text can be up to 60 characters of Latin letters, numbers and common symbols. Other alphabets and emoji are not supported, because the stamp uses the standard Helvetica Bold font that every PDF viewer already has.
Diagonal runs from the bottom-left to the top-right corner of the page as it is displayed, so the angle follows the page shape: about 55 degrees on a tall A4 page and a shallower angle on a landscape page. Horizontal keeps the text level. Centre puts one stamp in the middle of the page. Tiled repeats the text in a grid across the page, with every second row shifted sideways, which is harder to crop out of a printed copy. With Auto size, tiles are smaller than a single centred stamp, about a quarter of the diagonal wide. If a size would put more than 200 stamps on one page, the tool stops before you run it and asks for a larger size. Pages that are rotated, or have a crop area that does not start at the corner, get the stamp where you see it in the preview; mixed page sizes in one file are measured page by page.
This is a visible stamp, not security. Anyone with a PDF editor can remove or cover it. It does not stop anyone from copying text, printing the file or saving it, and it is not a password. A stamp tells the reader what status a document has, such as a draft or a confidential copy; it cannot enforce that. If a file must be kept from some people, protect the file another way, and treat the watermark as a label on top. The stamp is drawn over each page you choose. Pages outside your range are not changed. The tool saves a new copy of the PDF, so the file size and the bytes differ from the original even where no stamp was added, and the original file on your device is never modified.
The PDF is read and stamped by your browser, in this tab. There is no upload step and no server that receives the file or the words you type. The page counts visits with Google Analytics, using rough groups such as 1 to 10 MB, never a file name, the watermark text or a page count. The text you type is not stored by default. Your other choices, such as colour and opacity, are remembered on this device; the text and the page range are not, unless you tick Keep my text on this device. Your device's memory sets the limits: the tool warns before opening a PDF over 200 MB or with more than 1000 pages, and it works on one file at a time.
Yes. It is a visible stamp drawn on top of the page, and anyone with a PDF editor can delete or cover it. It does not stop copying or printing either. Use it to label a 12-page draft or a confidential copy, not to protect a file.
Yes. Type page numbers and ranges such as 1-3, 5, 8- in Apply to pages. A trailing dash runs to the last page. Pages outside the range are not stamped and keep their size, rotation and content. Leave the box blank to stamp every page.
Not yet. This tool stamps text only, in Helvetica Bold, up to 60 characters. Custom fonts, non-Latin alphabets, a different text on each page and putting the stamp behind the page content are also not supported.
Yes. A page stored with a 90, 180 or 270 degree rotation, or with a crop area that starts away from the corner, gets its stamp where the preview shows it, at the same angle you see on screen. A file mixing A4 and Letter pages is measured page by page.
Usually it grows by a little, since every stamp adds text to the page. A tiled stamp on a 3-page PDF adds more than a single centred one. The tool saves a new copy, so even unstamped pages are written again with the same size, rotation and content.
The text box is empty, the text has characters outside Latin letters, numbers and common symbols, a manual size is outside 12 to 400 points, the page range is not valid, or a tiled size would put more than 200 stamps on one page. The reason is shown above the button.
