CGPA to percentage calculator

Convert CGPA to percentage and back with the formula of your board or university, and see which official document it comes from.

How it works

  1. Choose CGPA to percentage or percentage to CGPA
  2. Pick your board or university, or type your own multiplier
  3. Read the answer, the formula with its source and the conversion table

The CBSE rule and why it is not the only one

To convert a CBSE CGPA to a percentage, multiply it by 9.5, so a CGPA of 8.4 is 79.80% and a CGPA of 10 is 95%. CBSE prints this in its Circular No. 24 of 28 May 2010 as the overall indicative percentage of marks, and repeats it in its FAQ for Class 10. The word indicative matters. CBSE says it does not award aggregate marks or a division, and that the percentage should be worked out to the criteria of the school, college or employer that asks for it. There is no national rule that covers every university. Each one sets its own formula for its own scheme, and the same CGPA of 8.2 comes out as 77.9% with 9.5, 82% with 10, 74.5% with the VTU rule and 73% with the Pune rule. That is why this page asks for the board or university first.

Formulas listed, with their sources

Each formula on this page was read in an official document, and the page shows the source under the answer. VTU's B.E./B.Tech CBCS regulations give (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, with the example 8.2 giving 74.5%. Anna University's examination office gives CGPA × 10 for its regulations R-2015, R-2018 and R-2019. The University of Delhi uses CGPA × 9.5 for the final percentage of postgraduate CBCS courses, under Ordinance IX(8). Savitribai Phule Pune University's examination page gives CGPA × 8.9. Mumbai University, AKTU, GTU, KTU and JNTU are not listed because no official document with the formula could be opened while building this page. For those, or for a newer scheme of a listed university, choose My own formula and enter the multiplier and any amount subtracted first from your own regulations or marks card.

Percentage to CGPA, the table and the limits

To go the other way, the page reverses the same formula: percentage divided by the multiplier, plus the amount subtracted. An 80% result on the CBSE rule needs a CGPA of 8.42, and on the VTU rule 8.75. A percentage that would need a CGPA above 10 is refused, as is a CGPA that the VTU rule turns into a negative percentage (anything below 0.75). The table lists CGPA 5.0 to 10.0 in steps of 0.5 for the formula you picked. All the formulas here are for a 10-point scale. A 4-point GPA is a different conversion and is not covered. The formulas are as of 22 October 2026, and a university can change them for a new scheme. The page gives an estimate: the number that counts is the one on your marks card, transcript or the admission form's instructions. Nothing you type is stored or sent.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert CBSE CGPA to percentage?

Multiply the CGPA by 9.5. CBSE Circular No. 24 (2010) gives overall indicative percentage of marks = 9.5 × CGPA. A CGPA of 9.2 is 87.4%, and 10 is 95%. CBSE adds that the percentage is calculated as the receiving institution requires.

What is the VTU formula for CGPA to percentage?

(CGPA − 0.75) × 10, from clause 15OB12 of the VTU B.E./B.Tech CBCS regulations. A CGPA of 8.2 gives 74.5%. Newer VTU schemes may be different, so use My own formula if your marks card states another.

Is CGPA times 10 correct for Anna University?

For regulations R-2015, R-2018 and R-2019, yes: the Additional Controller of Examinations states Percentage of Marks = CGPA × 10. A CGPA of 8.37 is 83.7%. For other regulations, check your university's current notice.

How do I convert percentage to CGPA?

Reverse the formula. On the CBSE rule, divide by 9.5: 80% is 8.42. On the VTU rule, divide by 10 and add 0.75: 80% is 8.75. On the Anna rule, divide by 10: 80% is 8.00. The Percentage to CGPA option does this for the listed formulas.

Why does my university not appear?

Only formulas found in an official board or university document are listed. Mumbai University, AKTU, GTU, KTU and JNTU had no document that could be opened, so they are left out rather than guessed. Choose My own formula and type the multiplier from your regulations.

Which formula should I use for an application form?

The one the form or the receiving institution names. If it names none, a university's own formula printed on your marks card is the safest choice. For a CBSE Class 10 result, 9.5 × CGPA is CBSE's own indicative figure.
