Darts scorer

Score 501, 301, 701 or Cricket for up to four players, with checkout routes, averages and undo.

How it works

  1. Pick the game, starting score and players, then name them
  2. Enter each visit as a total, or tap every dart on the keypad
  3. Follow the checkout route, check averages and undo mistakes

How 501 and 301 darts are scored

In 501, 301 and 701 each player starts on the same score and subtracts every dart they throw, and the first to reach exactly zero wins the leg. A turn is a visit of up to three darts, and the most a visit can score is 180, which is three treble 20s. The usual rule is double out: the last dart must land in a double ring or on the inner bull, which counts as a double 25 for 50 points. If a visit would take you below zero, leave you on exactly 1, or reach zero on anything but a double, it is a bust. The whole visit counts for nothing and you go back to the score you had before it. Straight out is also available, where any dart can finish and only going below zero is a bust. These rules follow the World Darts Federation and PDC playing rules.

Checkout routes and impossible finishes

When the active player is on 170 or less, the tool shows a checkout route for the darts they have left. The highest finish is 170, which is treble 20, treble 20, then the inner bull. Some scores cannot be finished in three darts on a double finish: 169, 168, 166, 165, 163, 162 and 159, and nothing above 170. The tool finds a route by search. It uses the fewest darts, then prefers a big treble first and a favourite double last, such as double 20, double 16 or double 8. A route is always a valid finish, but it is one common choice and not the only one, and it is not an official chart. If you have only two darts left in a visit, the tool shows only routes that fit in two. Straight out routes are simply the single dart that scores the remainder when there is one.

Entering by total or by dart

Total entry is fastest for a pub game: type what the visit scored, or tap a quick total like 26, 45, 60, 100 or 180. The tool refuses totals that three darts cannot make, such as 163 or 179, and any total above 180. Because it does not know which darts you threw, a finish by total is accepted only when the score has a three-dart checkout, and you say how many darts the finishing visit took so the averages stay honest. Dart entry records every dart: choose Single, Double or Treble, then tap the number, the outer bull 25, the inner bull 50 or Miss. It tracks the bust, double in and the number of darts left in the visit exactly, and it is the only mode used for double in and for Cricket.

Cricket, averages, legs and sets

Cricket uses the numbers 20, 19, 18, 17, 16, 15 and the bull. A single is one mark, a double two and a treble three, and three marks close a number. After you close a number, extra marks score its value in points, but only while at least one opponent has not closed it. You win a leg by closing all seven numbers while level on points or ahead. The 3-dart average is points scored divided by darts thrown, times three, and a bust visit counts its three darts with no points. The first-9 average uses the first three visits of each leg. Choose one leg, first to three legs, or sets of three legs. Undo removes the last dart or visit all the way back to the start, and nothing is stored or sent anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

What is the highest checkout in darts?

170, made with treble 20, treble 20 and the inner bull. The scores 169, 168, 166, 165, 163, 162 and 159 cannot be checked out in three darts with a double finish.

What happens on a bust?

The visit scores nothing and the player goes back to the score they had before it. It is a bust if the score goes below 0, leaves exactly 1 with double out, or reaches 0 on a dart that is not a double. For example, on 40 a single 20 leaves 20 and play goes on, but on 20 a single 20 reaches 0 on a single and busts, while a double 10 wins.

What is a 3-dart average?

Points scored divided by darts thrown, times three. A player who scores 60 with every dart of three visits has an average of 60.00. A visit that busts adds its three darts and no points.

What is double in?

An optional rule where no score counts until the player hits a double or the inner bull. On 501 with double in, a treble 20 before the first double scores 0. The tool needs dart entry for this, and it switches to it for you.

How does Cricket scoring work?

Three marks close 20, 19, 18, 17, 16, 15 or the bull. A treble 20 closes the 20 in one dart. Further marks on a closed number score points, 20 for each mark on the 20, but only while an opponent has not closed it.

Why is a total like 179 refused?

Three darts cannot make it. The totals 163, 166, 169, 172, 173, 175, 176, 178 and 179 are impossible, and 180 is the maximum. Check the visit and enter it again.
