Type your letters, with up to 2 blank tiles, and see every word you can make, longest first. Nothing leaves your browser.
The unscrambler lists every word in its word list that can be built from your letters, using each letter no more often than you typed it. It counts how many of each letter A to Z your tiles hold, then checks every word in the list against those counts. A word passes when, for every letter, it needs no more copies than you have. Typing listen gives 90 words, and the six that use all the tiles come first: elints, enlist, inlets, listen, silent and tinsel, which are the anagrams. Typing retinas shows nine seven-letter anagrams: anestri, antsier, nastier, ratines, retains, retinas, retsina, stainer and stearin. Below the anagram group the words are grouped by length, longest first, and sorted A to Z inside each group.
Type ? or _ for a blank tile that can stand in for any letter. Up to 2 blanks and 15 tiles in total are accepted. Each blank covers one missing letter, so cat with one blank can make words such as cart, cast and coat as well as cat. An exact length keeps only words of that length, and with it set the shortest-word box is ignored. Starts with, ends with and contains keep words that begin with, end with or hold a letter run, for example qu. These filters look at the word, and the word must still be buildable from your tiles. The hide-offensive-words switch is on by default and uses a short blocklist; it is not complete, so check a list before showing it to children.
The words come from ENABLE, a public domain list of 168,551 words between 2 and 15 letters long once shorter and longer entries are removed. It loads from this site the first time you open the page, which is a file of roughly 1.6 MB before compression. Word games use their own dictionaries, so a word shown here can be rejected by a game and a word the game accepts can be missing here. Treat the result as a list of ideas, not a ruling on what is valid. The list has no proper nouns, no hyphenated words and no accents, and only the letters A to Z are used from your input. The tool does not rank words by score, because scores depend on the game.
Results are capped at 3,000 words, longest first, and a note tells you when the cap applies. A rack of 15 tiles with 2 blanks can match more words than that, so add a length or letter filter to narrow it. Your letters are matched in this tab. They are not uploaded and not stored; only your filter choices are remembered in this browser.
Type the letters in the box, for example listen, and the words appear straight away. The words that use all 6 letters come first (elints, enlist, inlets, listen, silent, tinsel), then 5-letter words, then 4-letter words and so on.
Type ? or _ for each blank. Two blanks are allowed. A blank stands in for any one letter, so with the tiles r e t i n a s and one blank, words of 8 letters can appear as well as the 7-letter anagrams.
Fill in Starts with or Ends with, for example ing as Ends with. Only words that end in ing and can be built from your tiles are shown. The letters of the filter must be among your tiles or covered by a blank.
Each game uses its own dictionary. This tool uses the ENABLE word list of 168,551 words, which is public domain but is not the official dictionary of any game. Check the word in the dictionary your game or club uses before you play it.
The list has no proper nouns, abbreviations or hyphenated words, and it stops at 15 letters. A newer word, such as one added to a game dictionary last year, can also be absent. Words under 2 letters are never listed.
No. The text is processed in your browser and not uploaded. The page downloads the word list once, and your letters are matched against it in this tab. Your filter choices are saved in this browser, the letters are not.
