Type text onto any page, or fill a flat PDF form. Runs on your device.
This tool writes new text on top of a page. The text is real text in the file, so it can be selected and searched, but it is added as new content: nothing underneath is erased or changed. It does not edit existing text and it does not fill interactive form fields. A flat form is one where the blanks are just printed lines, such as a scan or a form that was printed to PDF. For those, put a text box on each blank. If the PDF has real fillable fields, use the form filling in your PDF viewer instead; a text box placed over a field only covers it visually. To hide something, drawing over it does not remove it from the file, so use a tool that rebuilds pages, such as Compress PDF in its picture-only mode, if the content is confidential. The tool saves a new copy, so the file's bytes differ from the original, and your original on your device is never modified.
Press Add a text box on this page and type in the Text field. You can add up to 50 boxes, each up to 1000 characters and as many lines as you like. A new box appears one inch from the top-left corner of the page, and each further box on the same page starts 24 points lower. Drag a box to move it. Arrow keys on the focused box move it 1 point, or 10 with Shift, and the Left and Top fields under the page take percentages of the page, so a box can be lined up with a blank without dragging. A box is as big as its text, so it has no resize handle; change the font size instead, from 6 to 144 points. The size starts at 14. The fonts are Helvetica, Times and Courier. The colours are black, blue, red, green and grey, or any custom colour. The first line sits just under the top edge of the box and the lines are spaced at 1.2 times the font size. Your choice of size, font and colour is remembered on this device for the next box; the text is not.
Helvetica, Times and Courier are the standard fonts every PDF viewer has, so they are not stored inside the file. They cover Latin letters, numbers, common punctuation and accented letters such as é, ñ, ü and ß, plus the euro sign and curly quotes. They cannot write Hindi, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Cyrillic, Greek, emoji or most symbols. The tool does not drop those characters or swap them for question marks. It tells you the position of the first one, for example Character 5, or Line 2, character 3, so you can find it, and the Add text button stays off until the text is fixed. Tabs are written as four spaces and any line-break style works. The preview uses your browser's own fonts, so it can differ from the PDF by a point or two; the file uses the real standard font, so check the downloaded page when a blank is tight.
A page stored with a 90, 180 or 270 degree rotation, or with a crop area that does not start at the corner, gets the text where the preview shows it, upright as you see it. Mixed page sizes are measured page by page. A PDF protected by a password cannot be opened: the tool asks you to remove the password first. It works on one PDF at a time and warns before opening a very large one, because your device's memory is the limit. The PDF and the words you type are handled by your browser in this tab and are not uploaded. The page counts visits with Google Analytics, using rough size groups, never a file name or your text.
No. This tool only adds new text on top of the page. It cannot edit, replace or delete existing text, and a white box drawn over old text would still leave that text in the file. To change a sentence, edit the document it came from and export a new PDF.
No. It does not read or fill interactive form fields. It is for flat forms, such as a scan or a printed-to-PDF form with blank lines: add a text box over each blank, then line it up with the arrow keys or the Left and Top fields in percent of the page.
It uses the standard Helvetica, Times and Courier fonts, which cover Latin letters, numbers and common punctuation (WinAnsi), not other alphabets or emoji. The tool shows the position of the first character it cannot write instead of dropping it silently. For another script, write it in an app that can embed that font.
Yes. It is added as text, not as a picture, so a PDF viewer can select it and search for it. On a scanned page the scan underneath stays a picture, with no text layer, so only the text you added is searchable.
Up to 50 in one PDF, each up to 1000 characters. Press Add a text box on this page once per box, or put several lines in one box. The last box can be removed with Remove selected.
No. The tool saves a new copy named like your file with -text added. Pages without a text box keep their content, size and rotation, but the new file's bytes differ because it is written again.
