Aim trainer

Hit circles as fast and as accurately as you can: 30 targets or a 60-second flick, three target sizes, average time per target and accuracy. Runs on your device.

How it works

  1. Pick a mode and a target size in the menu
  2. Press Start and hit each circle
  3. Read your time, accuracy and speed list

What an aim trainer measures

An aim trainer measures how quickly and how accurately you can move a pointer onto a target and press, and this one reports the average time per target, your accuracy and your misses. Press Start and a circle appears at a random spot. Press on it and the next one appears at once, somewhere else. A press anywhere else in the box is a miss. The time for each target runs from the moment it appears to your press, so it includes finding the circle, moving to it and pressing. Hits of 400, 500 and 600 ms average 500 ms. Accuracy is your hits as a percent of all your presses in the box, so 30 hits and 10 misses is 75%.

The two modes and the three sizes

In 30 targets mode the run ends on your 30th hit and the score is your total time, with lower being better. In 60-second flick mode the run ends after 60 seconds and the score is the number of hits, with higher being better. Large targets are 72 px across, medium are 52 px and small are 44 px. Smaller targets need a steadier hand, so your times and your misses both rise. Each mode and size keeps its own personal best, so a medium score is never compared with a small one. Every target sits fully inside the play area, and the box keeps the same size during the run, so nothing moves under your hand. A run you stop early is not scored and never saves a best.

Mouse, touch and keyboard

The aiming is pointer-only: you need a mouse, a trackpad, a stylus or a finger. A keyboard cannot aim at a random spot, so it is not offered. Start and Stop are ordinary buttons you can reach with Tab and press with Enter or Space, and Escape ends a run in progress. A touch screen counts a tap the same way as a mouse press. Scores from a phone and from a mouse are not comparable: the screen is smaller, a finger is wider than a pointer, and the input delay differs. For the fairest comparison, use the same device, the same mode and the same size each time.

What this page does not do

There is no ranking against other people and no percentile, because nothing is sent to a server and a score from one device means little for another. The only thing stored is your best result for each mode and size, kept in this browser. Your hit times and positions are not saved, and clearing your browser data removes the bests. The page counts visits with Google Analytics, never your clicks or times. Results include the delay of your screen and input device, so use them to compare your own days, not to judge your hands.

Frequently asked questions

How is accuracy calculated?

Hits divided by all presses in the play area, as a whole percent. 30 hits and 10 misses is 30 out of 40 presses, which is 75%. A press that lands on the circle is a hit; any other press inside the box is a miss.

What does the time per target include?

The time from the moment a circle appears to your press on it. That covers spotting it, moving to it and pressing. Hits of 400, 500 and 600 ms give an average of 500 ms. The screen and your input device add a few milliseconds.

What is the difference between the two modes?

30 targets ends on your 30th hit and scores your total time, such as 21.40 s. The 60-second flick ends after 60 seconds and scores your hit count, such as 85 hits. Each mode keeps its own best.

Can I play with the keyboard?

Not the aiming. A circle can appear anywhere, so you need a mouse, trackpad, stylus or finger. Start and Stop work from the keyboard with Tab and Enter, and Escape ends a run.

Why do I score worse on small targets?

A 44 px circle is about 60 percent of the width of a 72 px one, so you must stop more precisely. Expect more misses and a slower average. Each size has its own best so the numbers stay fair.

Are my results saved or sent anywhere?

Only your best result for each mode and size is saved, in this browser, and no server receives it. Hit times and positions are never stored. Clearing your browser data removes the bests.
